If your child is consistently having problems with reading and math problems, do not blame yourself right away as a parent. There are times that parents find themselves at fault when their children do not excel at school. Try to see your pediatrician and see if he has some kind of dyslexia. Dyslexia is a learning disability that makes a child encounter problems in reading, listening and solving problems.
Speech delay is also a symptom of dyslexia. Problem in auditory or hearing is the primary reason of the speech problem. If you notice that your child still cannot pronounce any single word you need to consult with your pediatrician and try to see if there is some problem with your child.
Stuttering with word when a child should be speaking clearly already could be a sign of dyslexia. Sometimes a child might often mixed-up syllables just like the word spaghetti as bisghetti or the word helicopter for hekalopter. Articulating letters such as the L, M, N and R might be rumbled too. Dyslexic children need to join a speech therapy class.
Auditory processing disorder may also be the problem with speech impairment. This is because of the way the brain process the information in the auditory. Again, the best thing to do when you suspect something is to consult with your physician for clarification.
The child may find it hard to distinguish between on and off and left or right. He may have difficulties memorizing the alphabet, identifying words, unable to distinguish the rhyming words, counting syllables and learning the sounds are some of the problems that the child might face.
Some of the difficulties that a dyslexic child might encounter are difficulties in hearing, distinguishing sound, associating words with the correct meanings, no concept of time and all. When the child always experienced embarrassment and rejection he might have low self-esteem. He will also become shy and will isolate himself from other children his age.
