How Roger Federer Keeps Fit?

Being the worlds top tennis player today, makes many people wonder what Roger Federer does to keep himself fit. He definitely did not sleep like a dog and eat like a pig on his way to greatness. It is definitely not just balls and racket all day long. Tennis may be his career but it would do him harm if he does not allot a few hours for toning his physique. He has to spend time for fitness training and take the proper diet.

Some would say that he is only twenty-seven and his body is at the prime of its health and fitness. However, Roger Federer is not taking chances at all. He is much disciplined when it comes to regular exercises and nutrition. He can even be strict in taking the necessary rest. A 10-hour long night sleep is his average, certainly a long one for others but not for his usually exhausted body.

Federer spends long hours of workouts with his trainer Pierre Paganini especially during off-season when there no big games to play. They usually expend more or less 10 hours every week for workouts alone. For an entire season, the pair could reach 100 hours of plain non-tennis sweat outs. This is not an exploit to brag about but just simply an essential to his rule over the tennis kingdom. That may not even be enough as he once admitted he wants to be 200 percent fit and ready for any game.

As an ace tennis player, one of Federers major to concern in physical fitness is in increasing muscle strength. He lifts weights and dumb bells. That should explain for his high velocity one handed backhands and powerful serves. He also does the skipping ropes to develop his stamina and his feets quickness, a very important factor in dominating the tennis court. He also does lateral lunges with twist, which develops further his agility. Doing this with a barbell with or without weights, Federer develops his upper body muscles such as the torso.

Federer uses often the medicine ball in his workout routines. The tennis ace considers this as an important device that helps him improve his agility and upper body strength. To hone his hand and body coordination, he runs and sprints across the court while passing the medicine ball back and forth with Paganini, his constant companion and fitness instructor. He even shuffles his feet while lobbing and receiving the medicine ball so he can develop his footwork.

Federer eats to complement and supplement his tedious and long workouts. His tired body would naturally require him to eat the right food. Unlike others, he rarely takes in dietary supplements though. He usually takes in food that will not compromise his gains in the workouts. When he is away for the big games or for doing functions, he leashes his cravings. However, when he is in home with the family in Basel, Switzerland, he allows himself to enjoy the food. You can have great knowledge about beachbody from the tennis guy.
