1. Overcoming Difficulties

Most clients that visit Christian counselors are there for a specific reason that they are trying to deal with or overcome. Maybe it is depression, marital issues, anxiety, stress, or just about anything else. Ideally, your counselor will be experienced at working with people in your situation, and they should be able to help you through the process of overcoming these struggles.

2. Focusing on God

Christian counselors are different from secular counselors in that they turn to Scripture on advise clients based on biblical principles rather than what feels right or whatever makes the individual happy. Meeting with a Christian counselor can be a big help in terms of getting your focus on God and turning to Him and His Word when you face difficulties.

3. Self Evaluation

Most of the time when we have problems we tend to focus on the other people involved and what they are doing wrong or what they are doing that we don’t like. The truth is, we often have a need to evaluate ourselves and see how we are handling the situation and what is within our power to improve things. A counselor can help as an outside party to encourage that self evaluation that might be otherwise overlooked.

4. Prayer

In addition to just turning to the Bible as a guide for our lives, Christian counselors often pray with their clients and encourage them to actively ask God for help with the issues that they are facing. Prayer can be the difference in handling a situation appropriately and continuing to struggle with the challenges that arrive every day.

5. Godly Advice from Others

A Christian counselor can be a sort of mentor that you can turn to for some grounded advice from a trusted source. Many of use don’t have the sold Christian influences in our lives that we can turn to when we are facing difficult situations. In these cases, simply having someone to provide some guidance and advice can be especially valuable.

6. Someone to Listen

A big part of what a Christian counselor does is listen. Many clients are helped by just being able to voice their frustrations and struggles. A good Christian counselor will take the time to listen and really understand the situation of the client.

7. Relating to Others

Many of the struggles that we face each day are a result of some type of conflict or difference between us and others. Being able to handle these situations appropriately and being able to relate and communicate with others is key to solving and avoiding these problems in the future.
