Do Stretching Exercises Make You Grow Taller?

We know how easy it is to be sceptical of much of what you hear online. Wild claims and broken promises litter the internet like candy from a busted pinata. You may have heard about these claims before and thought they were nothing but nonsense.

These claims though, are anything but. Verifiable studies have been conducted that prove regular exercise and stretching can indeed stretch out muscles, increasing height.

Take for instance, pitchers in major league baseball. Years of hurling baseballs at great velocity has stretched out the throwing arm of the majority of major league pitchers to the point where they’re 1-2 inches longer than their non-throwing arm on average.

Even non-pitchers like most of us will find that our dominant arm is longer than our other arm by about half an inch, through the simple additional tasks that we give to it over the other arm. Measure your arms and see if these results aren’t true, or simply hold your arms straight out in front of you and then bring them together, meeting at a point in the center of your body.

Now having longer arms of course is not helpful as far as height gain goes, or for much else for that matter, unless you’re a boxer. For height gain, we need to target two key areas, the legs and the spine.

Targeting the spine with stretching exercises strengthens the discs in your back, and increases the length of space between the many vertebrae in the spine, increasing height.

To see how easily this works, there’s another task you can perform, with which you can see what the simple force of gravity does to the spine and its length throughout the day. The discs in your spine actually compress during the day, through the pressures of walking and standing, and the effects of gravity, and decompress while you sleep.

Measure your height just before you go to bed, and then again immediately after waking up. You should find that you’re a good inch taller in the morning than you were the night before. Now you can see that through strengthening the discs and cartilage in the spine, this separation of the vertebrae can be maintained, giving you a permanent increase in height.

These fun little experiments should be proof positive that height growth is possible through simple stretching. Nothing good comes easily though, and these tasks will take time before results are seen. The sooner you get started, the sooner you can have a taller you.
