Tattoo Supplies – Just What You May Need

Whether you are just starting out as a tattoo artist or a veteran in the making, tattoo supplies are always needed. The machine itself that you use during the actual process will undergo many changes as you become more accustomed to it and want to try something new. And let\’s not forget the wide variety of inks and needles available in the market today.

When purchasing supplies, you will at some point end up buying individual pieces. If you are looking to buy multiple items at once, a kit may be the way to go. Whatever you have for a price range, you may just find the right one for you.

In many of the standard kits you will receive a tattoo machine, or in other words, a tattoo gun. Depending on your level of expertise will determine what kind of machine you will get. The machine will consist of three parts that are inter-changeable. They are the coil wrap, the grip, and the tips. Having several of each will be part of keeping your supplies stocked up. Also, to keep the machine together and running are the rubber bands, rubber rings, and grommets.

There are several other items that you will need that may not be included in your standard kit. Needles, for one, if not in a kit can be bought separately or in quantity. Again, depending on how you go about tattooing, will be how you decide what kind of sizes of needles that you buy. Ink caps are a must, and there is such a thing as practice skin. With this, you have something to practice on that is close to human skin before trying out the real thing when testing a new machine.

If you can imagine it, then there is an ink that color out there for you. When deciding on what kind of ink to use, the color should not be your only consideration. From brand to brand there will be differences including the consistency of the ink itself. There are a variety of inks that work with different skin tones, types, and even in the works of covering up scars. Many of the inks are made from metals which some people will develop issues with. Organic inks are something to consider if you think this may be a concern of yours.

The needles that you choose to use are also very important. What you prefer as an artist will determine what kind of needles that you will keep in stock. The two main types are the round and the flat. With a round type set, it is where there are several needles put together to form a round shape. A flat type setup is where several needles are placed in a single row, or in layers of flat rows.

Tattoo needles are not the only disposable item that you will use each time you tattoo. Paper towels, ink cups, antiseptic spray, petroleum jelly for during the procedure, and a cream to be used on the tattoo once it is done are needed and will definitely be used. Having these items close by will make things easier and safer during the tattoo.

It is not very difficult to find the standard tattoo supplies. As you get into the higher quality items or more unique, then it can become difficult. Although the parts are interchangeable, your machine will remain a constant throughout your career. Most of your other supplies though, will be disposable and will continuously need to be replaced.
