How a Teenager Can Lose Weight

It is an unfortunate fact that overweight teenagers usually grow into overweight adults, parents know they need to resolve this weight issue before their child grows older and it affects their whole life. Most young people want to fit in with their friends but this just isn’t going to happen they become the basis for all the weight jokes around. Increasingly young people with a problem are being enrolled into teen weight loss programs often referred to as ‘boot camps’.

Unfortunately, many young people suffer with ill health, physical and emotional owing to their overweight condition. An overweight teen can almost be assured of future health problems including:

Heart disease – Blood and circulatory conditions – High / low blood sugar levels – Hormone level irregularities

In most instances a teen weight loss program can help to prevent these conditions occurring. Mentally, the repercussions are probably more obvious because who doesn’t remember an overweight child at school that got saddled with some of those awful nicknames like fatty, piggy, porky and tubby plus many more that were even less courteous.

Although it might not help, rest assured you are not on your own as overweight teenagers and adults are a product of the times in which we live. Obesity has become a global concern and huge business for companies that claim to have ‘wonder cures’ to beat the problem but only relatively few actually work.

Often parents will react badly which doesn’t help their teen lose weight because the problem is probably the result of over eating the wrong foods and little exercise for many years so it is not going to be cured in a matter of days. The first thing to do is speak to a professional who specializes in teen weight loss and carry out some research on your own, before spending large sums on diet plans that will not work and just disillusion your child.

However, it is important to bear in mind that there is some danger with teen weight loss programs that rely on a strict adherence to rapid fat loss. Diets that rely on a dramatic reduction in food intake are also harmful as the body requires energy to survive and these weight loss programs can often cause problems with muscle development. The best way to proceed is by education, both for the parents and the teen so that losing fat is the prime concern as losing excess weight will follow.
