Stress is the reaction of the body and the mind towards various changes in the physical environment of a person. Though a human being undergoes changes throughout his life, adolescence is one period that witnesses most of the changes. During puberty, an individual goes through many sorts of changes including physical, emotional, social and academic. Teenage is the period that is accompanied by maximum stress levels.

There are many reasons behind teen stress that include college demands, bodily changes, high expectations of self, being bullied, peer pressure and career calls. Other less common causes include learning disabilities, family financial issues, divorced fogeys, difficulty making buddies and end of relationships.

Teenagers must handle stress effectively otherwise it might result in to severe health problems. A few common health hazards are despair, nervousness, insomnia, poor eating habits and lack of concentration. In case of any of these conditions, immediate pro help is needed. If not checked for in time, these issues could lead to aggression or social withdrawal. It’s been seen, if teenage stress isn’t handled appropriately, it could also result in loss of confidence and suicide, in worst cases!

Thus, it becomes important that stress in adolescence be managed effectively. One of he most significant steps to deal with teenage stress is managing time. If you organize your time correctly, you’ll be in a position to allocate time for numerous activities such as studies, play, tuitions, extra classes and so on. This can help reduce stress.

Dividing your overall jobs into smaller tasks that can be easily finished is another way to combat stress. When organizing your tasks, only focus on activities that you have control over. Contemplating on things that are beyond your control will only drain your energy and make you stressed.

Say no to alcohol, drugs and tobacco! Intake of excessive Caffeine is also not good for health. And the best way to lead a healthful life is to follow a regular and healthy eating schedule!

Many teenagers feel stressed in certain social situations. Think over and practice feared eventualities, for example practicing public speaking or asking somebody out on a date. Express your emotions. you can do this through writing, music, chatting with chums, or with somebody you trust like a teacher or a councilor.

Always try to stay away from negative thoughts. You should always have a positive outlook towards things. Rather than negative thoughts such as “I am broke”, you must look for positive thoughts such as “I will be able to get out of the situation.”

Accepting yourself the way you are is one of the key rules to manage stress in puberty. Most kids be afflicted by an inferiority complicated and become the victims of stress. Getting over this complicated and self acceptance will help you deal with stress.

If the routine stress management methods do not prove to be of much help, you can also look for the services of a medical care supplier. Be yourself and feel assured about what you are and you will be able to deal with stress effectively.

People of all ages experience panic attacks for a variety of reasons, but since these attacks can happen out-of-the-blue, some people can be at risk for accidents and injury. If you suffer from panic attacks and drive regularly, you could be putting yourself and your passengers at risk each time you hit the road. Common symptoms of an oncoming panic attack include rapid heartbeat, sweaty palms and dizziness, so becoming self-aware is an important step towards avoiding an accident. If you are at risk for having a panic attack, here are some important tips for handling panic attacks while driving:

1. Pull over. If it’s possible, pull off to the side of the road or take the next exit so you can get your bearings. Having a panic attack while driving can make you feel overwhelmed and disoriented, so you may need to take a break, stretch your legs and regain perspective. Don’t force yourself to push on through because you could be putting yourself at risk for an accident.

2. Play relaxing music. Relaxing music can lower your stress level and are very helpful if you don’t have the option of stopping on the shoulder. Focusing on relaxing music can put your mind at ease thus lowering your chances of experiencing a panic attack.

3. Let air circulate in your car. Letting the air circulate in your car by opening your window can help bring back your focus. Breath in some oxygen to clear your mind and reduce anxiety.

4. Pull over and call someone you trust. Using your phone will decrease your focus on the road so it would be wise to stop first before dialing. Stop on the side of the road, breath in deeply and call someone that you can trust. Telling others how you feel can feel reassuring thus lowering your anxiety.

5. Saying Affirmations. Saying affirmations such as “everything is under control” can help relieve your nerves. You can either say these affirmations out loud or write them on post-its and place them on your dashboard. It would take some time to develop this habit, but you can be sure to benefit greatly from it.

6. Take a companion with you when driving. Having someone ride with you is better than driving alone. It would be best to take someone who can drive with you so that he or she can drive if ever you’re overwhelmed by stress.

7. Bring healthy foods. In addition to the stress brought about by driving, dehydration and hunger can also set in, specially during long drives. Bring along some healthy foods with you to keep your body and mind at optimum condition.

If you have ever suffered from a panic disorder when socializing with people, or have fear of traveling, there is hope. A drug free anxiety treatment that can help you to free yourself from the fearful thoughts that may lead to panic attacks.

At work, we are constantly bombarded with stress. Our body actually helps us in coping up with stress in the workplace. You can notice this when there is a big workload, and you can feel yourself being able to catch up with everything. You find that you can get focused. Then after your shift, you start feeling exhausted. After work, your “fight or flight” state would have been long gone.

There are a multitude of tips, tricks, and techniques out there to prevent stress at work. There are also some to relieve stress from work; for instance, taking a break. Taking short breaks from work means you can take your mind off of it; even just for a few minutes. A lot can be done in fifteen minute breaks. Chatting with colleagues guarantees a smile or laughter, which beats stress any day. There will be some days, though, when you are too eager to get home and every minute feels like forever. These are symptoms of stress already.

These situations have been acknowledged by experts. They have noticed that those who focus too much on work do not feel the stress early on. They start feeling the effects of stress after work or half-way through the shift. When it’s the latter, they usually do not know how to cope. One tip is pausing and taking a few deep breaths. But stressed, and busy, people tend to forget to do that. In comes the stress ball for trying to relieve stress while on duty.

The stress ball is a soft, squeezable toy. They are usually round and not more than 7 centimeters in diameter. Squeezing the stress ball by hand has shown stress relief during work hours. The manipulations of force made by squeezing makes it an effective way to slowly, but surely, help release the tension caused by stress. While most stress balls are spherical, they do come in different shapes. Even so, their purpose is the same.

There are many different mechanisms and techniques introduced to relieve stress. They all have various effectivity levels on different situations and different people. Most of the techniques are performed before or after work. Stress balls, on the other hand, are useful in situations where stress in unavoidable – in the middle of your shift.

Everyone has gotten stressed in one way or another. If anyone says he has never encountered stress, he is wrong. While stress is generally viewed as something negative, a little bit of it is actually good for you. In fact, events such as landing a job or buying a car after saving money for a long time puts you in a good stress. The bad stress on the other hand is hardly unavoidable. Sometimes it is treated as a normal facet of our lives. But higher stress levels can actually break us down both physically and mentally. This is called chronic stress.

Stress may be considered normal. But chronic stress is something that must not be ignored. To be able to distinguish chronic stress, we need to be able to know how it works. For starters, chronic stress is the brains continuous response to undesirable events for an extended period of time. These events are often those beyond the individuals control.

This occurs when the body experiences so many internal or external stressors that the autonomic nervous system rarely has a chance to slow down and relax. It would be important to know at this point that all of us are built to handle acute stress, not chronic stress. While individual tolerance for stress can differ it is undeniable that all of us in one way or another will break down when faced with never ending bombardments of stress.

How do you know if the stress youre experiencing is chronic? Observe the signs. Symptoms between acute and chronic stress differ. Chronic stress symptoms include upset stomach, head and back aches, sleeping problems, anxiety, depression, anger, appetite changes, and hypertension. Severe cases of chronic stress may lead to panic attacks or even a panic disorder. Chronic stress also plays a role in depression and cardiovascular diseases. Not only that, but chronic stress makes you look older than you actually are.

Chronic stress is the accumulated result of all the stress and stressors that we face everyday. Problems that are never solved at work, at home, with family, with co-workers, with bosses, with money, and others lead to stress. Chronic stress happens when our body cant take it anymore and it snaps. To prevent this, we should identify each stressor and deal with them one by one before we develop chronic stress.

Coping up with stress cannot be done without taking the time to understand it. If you suspect that you have chronic stress, seek help immediately. There are a large number of techniques out there to help you manage your stress levels. Stress management courses can be purchased online or you may enroll yourself somewhere. There are various methods ranging from activities that require practice, to no-brainers like laughing. A good start is learning to cope up with your own fast-paced life. Once you master that, you may find that you do not need to spend a dime in your efforts to beat stress.

Anxiety disorders are often accompanied by a combination of emotional and physical symptoms. The physical symptoms are sometimes severe that it often leads to regular panic attacks and other negative problems. These physical symptoms can occur suddenly and last for a short time. Other symptoms can be a regular part of a person’s life, especially if the anxiety disorder has not been addressed for a long time.

Most types of anxiety disorders correspond to a specific series of physical symptoms. Identifying what these symptoms are is necessary for treating the disorder. A mental health professional may ask a patient to monitor when these symptoms manifest to ascertain the underlying cause of the disorder. Once identified, the mental health professional can then prescribe a combination of medicine, supplements, or psycho-behavioral therapy in treating the disorder.

According to WebMD.com, many people experience depression and other problems that can cause additional physical symptoms. Some of the most common physical symptoms associated with anxiety disorders include:

1. Upset stomach. Anxiety disorders often cause the central nervous system to be out of balance. This results in an upset stomach after a meal or at various times throughout a day.

2. Headaches or migraines. Constant tension and worry can take its toll physically in the form of headaches or migraines. People suffering from anxiety disorders often experience frequent headaches or intense migraines that can be crippling.

3. Difficulty Breathing. The fear caused by panic attacks often leaves the sufferer short of breath. As a side effect, the sufferer may also find it hard to concentrate and may even experience chest pains.

4. Difficulty relaxing and sleeping. Sufferers of anxiety disorders are under constant stress that they often find it impossible to relax or sleep. Medication, supplements, or behavioral changes may be prescribed to a suffer experiencing these symptoms.

5. Diarrhea or constipation. Anxiety disorders can cause several problems in the digestive system, and may trigger periods of diarrhea or constipation. People who suffer from extreme levels of anxiety often need to modify their diets to ensure they are eating the right types of foods. This can mean eating a steady diet of easily-digestible, well-balanced meals.

6. Extreme sweating. The stress produced by anxiety usually causes one’s heart rate and blood pressure to increase. This may also cause a person to sweat excessively, even on a normal situation.

7. Muscle tension or twitches. Some people who suffer from anxiety disorders experience muscle tension, twitches or tremors because of an imbalance in the central nervous system. Muscle twitches themselves can cause anxiety when they occur in public, and can make the sufferer feel even more out of control.

There are several physical symptoms associated with anxiety disorders, and recognizing them is the first step towards finding an effective treatment. Most people can overcome their anxiety problems with a combination of therapy, natural treatments, lifestyle changes and/or medication.

Millions of people suffer from panic disorders that can occur when in public or just travelling away from home. Now there is a drug free anxiety treatment that can help you to overcome the unsettling thoughts that may lead to panic attacks.

Cancer. It’s not the type of thing you ask for — usually. Who’d want it? A life-changing, sometimes life-ending disease. Cancer’s so scary that there are people who won’t say the word aloud…but I was saying it regularly, begging God to let me be the one with cancer. My son, a strong, smart, energetic 22-year-old junior at the University of Missouri, woke up one morning with an aching chest. It turned out to be a malignant tumor, and the start of my most fervent prayers. “Please. I’ve had a great life. Let it be me — not him.”

Chemo. Surgery. Hair loss. We were on the cancer whirlwind, watching wide-eyed as days passed and my son just seemed to get sicker and sicker. He stopped eating, his appetite gone because everything tasted metallic. And the worst of it was the wondering: how would this all play out? Would my son have a girlfriend, a family, a life…

Normally, I’m fond of irony. Humor is my thing. For twenty years, I’d studied, written about and lectured on the therapeutic values of humor. And now, here I was; forced to put the theory into practice. It wasn’t the easiest thing I’ve ever done; I won’t insult you by suggesting that finding laughs was intuitive when I was terrified that my boy was dying. Being funny can be had work. We had to work at it sometimes, forcing ourselves to make the conscious choice to enjoy the time we had, to laugh while we had the opportunity. And sometimes, it was not work at all. If we would just let it, it would just happen. The laughs would come. Humor was a saving grace.

Sorrow has its hour. There were many tears. But joy has a claim as well, and there was laughter too. Lots of laughter.

My son has always been lucky in his friends. David’s roommates provided him with great support and camaraderie, dubbing him “Captain Cancer” — the superhero no one wants to be. One roommate, an artistic red-headed color blind Italian, begged to decorate my son’s newly bald head with colorful markers.

We laughed at home, we laughed at the hospital, and we laughed at work. David was working as a bouncer at a popular local bar. One of his friends worked with him, and together they were known as Tonto and the Lone Ranger. After a round of treatments, though, his nickname changed. According to the bar’s patrons, my son was now Chemo-sabi!

Allen Klein, author of The Healing Power of Humor, surveyed patients who were terminally ill, about the use of humor. About 80% of them wished for more humor”from their caregivers, and the freedom to use humor themselves.

What is the best way to use humor? Ideally, humor is used proactively, to help heal the body and the spirit. Here are three ways to do this:

PLAY: Create your own personal play list. A personal play list consists of ten low or no-cost items that are fun for you. When you’re not feeling well, do something from the list. Don’t wait until you feel better to play — playing makes you feel better.

Make it easy to play by having fun toys around. Magic 8 balls, water guns, even the proverbial rubber chicken– as long as it makes you smile, it’ll work.

Be A Humor Collector: Gather funny books, magazines, movies and cartoons. Have people tell you funny or embarrassing stories. Search for great jokes. Amassing the collection is only part of the fun: spend at least 15 minutes a day enjoying it.

Make Connections: Surround yourself with people who make you laugh. Spend as little time as possible with negative, downbeat folks who make you feel bad. Ask people to laugh — and do your best to make them laugh. One laugh leads to the next!

By the way, David has been cancer free now for 4 years. Hes engaged to be married next month. His courage, his gentle spirit and his sense of humor”hes my hero.

Learn more about the healing power of humor by visiting Karyn’s website. And if you’re looking for hysterical nursing humor make sure to check out the Journal of Nursing Jocularity

Nobody is happy all the time and even the most positive among us have days when everything seems to go wrong: the alarm clock did not ring, you burn the toast, get stuck in traffic, get a parking ticket, shoes gets ruined by a downpour. But instead of feeling like a victim of bad luck, try one of these 7 tools to help you feel better.

1. Find the positive in the situation. I know it can be hard, but there is usually some little morsel of goodness that can be found. The parking ticket was at least only $25, the surly waiter is probably having an even worse day than you are, those pants were getting worn out anyway you get the idea.

2. Think of all the things you have to be thankful for. Your family, pet, job, home, health, food and water, friends, upcoming vacation, great memories.

3. Laugh. I read somewhere that if someone cuts you off in traffic, instead of getting mad, start laughing out loud instead. You’ll feel ridiculous at first, but that makes you laugh for real, and it actually helps. Every time your first response is anger, try to replace it with a laugh.

4. Visualize positive outcomes. Go into every situation with the expectation that it will be a positive experience. More often than not, you’ll find that it actually works. For example, my favorite grocery store has a really small, always packed, parking lot. When I turn into it, I visualize someone pulling out of a great spot just as I get to it. You’d be surprised at how often that actually happens.

5. Write down or cut out funny quotes and sayings that are helpful to you. Whenever you need a mood boost, take them out and read through them. My personal favorites are Woody Allen and Homer Simpson.

6. Do an inverted yoga pose. Getting into an upside down position is not only great for the entire body; it can also boost your mood. And don’t be intimidated if you’re not a regular yoga practitioner – you don’t have to go all out and do a head stand right away. Try one of the easier poses, like Legs Up the Wall.

7. Pause for a minute. Most of us have such a crazy schedule that we constantly rush around, trying to get as much done in a day as we possibly can. But never taking a break is actually dangerous to your health, and when you think about it, where is the enjoyment in a life spent running around like crazy? Whenever you feel yourself getting stressed, try to stop and just enjoy the moment. Small things like a sip of tea, sunshine on your bare skin or playing fetch with your dog can make all the difference, and after just a few minutes, you’ll feel so much better.

We all face different challenges every single day, and life is not easy, but if you try to maintain a positive outlook and avoid dwelling on wrongdoings and “what could have beens”, you’ll live a much happier, and healthier, life.

Even if you wake up feeling great, there is no end to all the things that can bring you down during the course of the day: watching the news, getting stuck in a downpour, paper cuts, knocking over a cup of coffee on your white pants, parking tickets, surly people – the list goes on. Here are my favorite ways to feel better when it seems that the world is out to get you.

1. Look for the silver lining. A cliche, I know, but one worth taking to heart. Instead of feeling attacked by bad luck, find the positive in the situation: at least it was just a parking ticket, not something that goes on your insurance, that ruined shirt gives you an excuse to buy a new one, maybe you arrived late to that meeting for a reason (you may have gotten in an accident otherwise).

2. Think of all the things you have to be thankful for. Your family, pet, job, home, health, food and water, friends, upcoming vacation, great memories.

3. Have a good laugh. You don’t have to go to laughing classes to be able to use this one (yes, laughing classes actually do exist). Every time something happens that makes you angry, instead of giving that anger a chance to surface, try laughing out loud. It will feel ridiculous the first couple of times, but that actually helps. You’ll start laughing for real because of the absurdity of it all. Try it, you’ll see!

4. Expect a positive outcome. If you go into any situation expecting it to be a positive experience that ends well, chances are it will be. I always expect a great parking spot to open up as I pull into my grocery store’s constantly packed lot, and it almost always does.

5. Collect positive and funny quotes and sayings. Put them on your fridge, on a piece of paper, or save them in a file on your computer and when you need a pick-me-up, pull them out and feel them work their magic. My personal favorite is Woody Allen. I have 3 of his books, and they never fail to make me at least smile, and often laugh out loud.

7. Take a break. I’m as guilty as anyone of running around trying to get more than is possible done in a day before crashing into bed too late to get more than 6 hours of sleep. But it’s a terrible bad habit to have, and one that can seriously compromise your health. It’s so important to stop every now and then to just enjoy the moment and spend quality time with friends, family and pets.

It’s not easy being a human, and life constantly throws the unexpected at you. But responding with anger and dwelling on old grievances only makes it more difficult. Trying to make the best out of everything not only changes your mood right then, it can actually make you a happier person overall.

Everyone needs to liberate themselves from the endless demands of time. Listening to relaxing music, lying back and cloud gazing on a summer day, or sifting the sandy beach for special stones are a few of the many ways we can quiet our minds, in the most innocent of moments, to find wholeness, and harmony. As children we are ever captivated by the infinite nature all around us, interacting with it with a sense of boundless discovery. As we age our journey traverses more inward as we spend more time evaluating, planning, calculating, perceiving, worrying and circling within our minds.

Massage counters the endless surge of work, and life pressures. For so many, stiffness and pain become our state of life. We become so habitualized to our discomfort, that it is often not until we receive the relief of a massage therapy session, do we realize our muscles are tight, and how much of our life force has been dampened by tension. Massage therapy can be a journey of self-discovery, to experience the ease of a body that can breathe, stand and move with fluidity

The beneficial effects of massage begin with its influence on the muscular tissues of the body. Skillful manipulation of the muscles assists the circulation of the blood and lymphatic fluid, stimulates the organs of digestion and improves the performance of the lungs and skin. As the muscles improve in tone, so do the nerves that supply them, right back to the spinal cord and brain.

Increased energy levels, body awareness, and enhanced feelings of well being are common findings by recipients of massage therapy. Massage Therapists’ utilize progressive kneading techniques, their knowledge of muscular symmetry, and gentle focused intent, to address long standing issues. Whether challenges are physically based or psychologically induced, a Massage Therapist can bring a fresh perspective and holistic approach. You can achieve greater benefits when they play an active role in the therapeutic process. Once you lie down on the table, release all muscle contraction, and let yourself melt into the surface. Focus on the exhale portion of your breathe. Allow your body to fully release before inhaling. Notice your muscles of inspiration and expiration. The focus on breathe will bring you into your body, and out of your restless mind.

As you feel the therapist hands, be receptive and simply focus your breath into the tissues. Allow your limbs to be lifted and moved by the giver, surrendering rather than trying to help. Let the therapist know if the pressure of touch is too deep, if anything feels uncomfortable or if something feels particularly good. This connects the therapist’s intent with the receivers needs, to achieve balance and harmony. Your Therapist certainly enjoys conversation but also embraces the preciousness of quiet focused touch.

Getting a Massage can do a world of good. Getting massage frequently can do even more. Regularly scheduled massage as a part of your self care can play a huge part in how healthy you’ll be, and how youthful you’ll remain with each passing year. Budgeting time and money for Massage Therapy at consistent intervals is truly an investment in your health. Consider your Massage Therapy appointments a necessary component to your health and wellness plan, and work with your therapist to establish a treatment schedule that best meets your needs.

Chiropractic treatments are being more widely recognized as main stream medical treatments. Chiropractic medicine is a holistic system of health care focused on treating the muscles, soft tissues and skeletal system. Many natural treatments are employed to help patients to restore their bodies back to full health. Massage therapy has been adopted to help improve the flexibility and increase the range of motion of muscles and joints. Massage chairs have proven to be an effective and labor cost savings in chiropractic offices.

With the increase in holistic, natural treatments, chiropractic medicine has become more popular. Typically, a visit to a chiropractor was to relieve back pain or headaches. These are still the majority of visits to chiropractic offices. The doctor must still figure out the actual causes of these symptoms in order to provide relief.

Holistic health is the view that a doctor of chiropractic medicine takes for treating patients. They are taught to believe that the body can maintain self-healing if the patient provides the right situation for their body. The doctor is merely there to help induce the body back toward self-healing.

With this in mind, doctors apply certain therapies to help the body to take back over the healing process. Therapies may include spinal adjustments, electrical muscle stimulation, and massage treatments. Massage chairs are used to provide complementary therapies in addition to just massage therapy.

Massage therapy, along with other treatments by a chiropractor requires them to be administered on a periodic basis. One cannot expect the immediately heal the body. It takes time and it takes the repetition of certain treatments until the body can take back over effectively.

Massage chairs have found their way into many doctors offices. They provide an excellent means to automate many manual methods. They also provide a consistent and reliable means to administer repetitive treatments to patients. This helps both the doctor and the patients to receive consistent treatments.

Massage chairs can provide a variety of massage therapies. They can be used for a general body warm up, target certain areas, or apply certain massage techniques. The consistency of the massage therapy is important and the length of time can be precisely controlled.

Massage chairs come equipped with automatic programs and with manual programs. The automatic programs are usually one touch and run the whole massage chair. Manual programs are used to apply specific massage techniques.

A massage chair allows the massage can be applied to a specific area and specific length of time. This helps to reduce the variables in the treatment process. The time and intensity of the massage can be applied consistently.

Many technologies have been added to massage chairs to complement the massage therapy. The addition of heating elements, tractions systems and even music players continue to increase the capabilities of massage chairs. Patients can be warmed up with the heaters built into the chair. Stretching of the lower body or upper body can be performed in these massage chairs. All the while, the patient can relax to music played on the massage chairs music player.

The flexibility of massage chairs has many advantages. One can apply a massage to the shoulders and neck while heat is applied to the lower body. Engage the traction function and you can stretch out the lower body. You have many options to isolate the massage on a particular area or to overlay multiple therapies all at once.

A chiropractors role is to align everything to its prior state of functioning. As your body is able to take back over the healing functions, a chiropractor needs to apply repetitive treatments. Massage chairs provide a consistent and dependable means to provide a range of treatments to assist the patients spine back to full health.
