Everyone needs to liberate themselves from the endless demands of time. Listening to relaxing music, lying back and cloud gazing on a summer day, or sifting the sandy beach for special stones are a few of the many ways we can quiet our minds, in the most innocent of moments, to find wholeness, and harmony. As children we are ever captivated by the infinite nature all around us, interacting with it with a sense of boundless discovery. As we age our journey traverses more inward as we spend more time evaluating, planning, calculating, perceiving, worrying and circling within our minds.

Massage counters the endless surge of work, and life pressures. For so many, stiffness and pain become our state of life. We become so habitualized to our discomfort, that it is often not until we receive the relief of a massage therapy session, do we realize our muscles are tight, and how much of our life force has been dampened by tension. Massage therapy can be a journey of self-discovery, to experience the ease of a body that can breathe, stand and move with fluidity

The beneficial effects of massage begin with its influence on the muscular tissues of the body. Skillful manipulation of the muscles assists the circulation of the blood and lymphatic fluid, stimulates the organs of digestion and improves the performance of the lungs and skin. As the muscles improve in tone, so do the nerves that supply them, right back to the spinal cord and brain.

Increased energy levels, body awareness, and enhanced feelings of well being are common findings by recipients of massage therapy. Massage Therapists’ utilize progressive kneading techniques, their knowledge of muscular symmetry, and gentle focused intent, to address long standing issues. Whether challenges are physically based or psychologically induced, a Massage Therapist can bring a fresh perspective and holistic approach. You can achieve greater benefits when they play an active role in the therapeutic process. Once you lie down on the table, release all muscle contraction, and let yourself melt into the surface. Focus on the exhale portion of your breathe. Allow your body to fully release before inhaling. Notice your muscles of inspiration and expiration. The focus on breathe will bring you into your body, and out of your restless mind.

As you feel the therapist hands, be receptive and simply focus your breath into the tissues. Allow your limbs to be lifted and moved by the giver, surrendering rather than trying to help. Let the therapist know if the pressure of touch is too deep, if anything feels uncomfortable or if something feels particularly good. This connects the therapist’s intent with the receivers needs, to achieve balance and harmony. Your Therapist certainly enjoys conversation but also embraces the preciousness of quiet focused touch.

Getting a Massage can do a world of good. Getting massage frequently can do even more. Regularly scheduled massage as a part of your self care can play a huge part in how healthy you’ll be, and how youthful you’ll remain with each passing year. Budgeting time and money for Massage Therapy at consistent intervals is truly an investment in your health. Consider your Massage Therapy appointments a necessary component to your health and wellness plan, and work with your therapist to establish a treatment schedule that best meets your needs.

Massage chairs are built to perform a wide variety of massage techniques. More expensive chairs will offer a greater range of massage techniques as well as speeds and intensities whereas basic massage chairs will offer fewer options in terms of massage functions. Still, kneading, rolling, and percussion or tapping are some basic functions that are most important and come standard with most chairs.

Rolling massages stretch the spine to relieve pressure in your back. It’s a basic technique used to loosen the muscles before a deeper massage. It is the feeling of someone pressing firmly on one side of your spine to the other. In massage chairs, larger rollers can work a greater area on your back and the more total area that is worked, the more effective in promoting blood circulation.

Kneading massages feels like two thumbs rubbing both sides of the spine in a circular motion. It lifts and stretches the muscles along the spine and works deeper into the tissue than the rolling massage. The purpose of the kneading massage is to relax the muscles and invigorate the body by transferring tension from acupoints to a broader area. It works in sequence with the roller.

The tapping function, also known as percussions depending on the manufacturer, is the fast hitting motion by the edge of a person’s hand. It is a popular technique in sports medicine and it helps with relieving pressure of spinal joints as well as flexes and releases pressure in the entire back.

The Shiatsu massage technique is a deep tissue massage that emphasizes special acupoints all over the body. The acupoints correlate to different organs in the body that stimulating a particular acupoint stimulates the correlating organ or gland. It is a way of reducing stress and improving the flow of energy in the body to promote overall health improvements. It feels like a person’s fingers poking at points on the body.

Acupressure is sometimes called compression depending on the manufacturer but refers to the same technique. It is the function of squeezing the muscles alongside your spine together, inward toward the spine with the heels of the hands. It is used to warm up and loosen muscles for deeper massages since it has a softening affect on the muscles.

The Swedish technique is a very relaxing technique of pressuring muscles and rubbing them in the direction of blood flow to the heart. It is a combination of other techniques to produce the loosening and relaxing other muscles as well as increasing blood flood. It is what most people would consider a normal massage and has become the standard massage.

Air massage is a special function offered by massage chairs. It is only available with high end chairs and uses a series of air bags to massage areas of the lower back, the arms, and the legs by inflating and deflating. This squeezes and relaxes the muscles.

There is no perfect technique as each has its benefits and it is up to the individual to determine what the most important functions are. The good news is that many massage chairs come with a variety of techniques and can be programmed to perform such a wide range of combination that anyone can find the ultimate massage experience from their ideal massage chair.

The rolling technique is a basic way to stretch your back and spine. This loosens up the area for deeper massages to follow. This massage is performed by a large roller in the back rest of the massage chair and works a large area of the back to increase circulation.

Popular in sports medicine, percussions or tapping is the rapid tapping of the back muscles. It feels like fists or the edge of hands and this motion flexes spinal joints to relieve pressure and invigorate the entire back. Some chairs refer to the technique as percussion while others use the term tapping.

The Shiatsu massage technique feels like fingers applying pressure directly on specific points of the body. This is a deep tissue technique focused on special acupoints that directly correlate to the different organs or glands in the body. The massage function stimulates specific points to reduce stress, increase the energy flow, and to promote overall health throughout the body.

Acupressure is a technique that squeezes the muscles along the spine inward toward each other. It feels like the heel of a person’s hand pressing and releasing alongside the spine. This has a loosening effect that warms up the muscles and loosens the back. Depending on the massage chair manufacturer, acupressure is also referred to as compression.

The Swedish massage is the style that most people are familiar with. It is what many would consider a normal or standard massage. It works to relax the muscles by using pressure and rubbing them in a particular direction according to the flow of the blood. The results are similar to other massages in that it is expected to relax and loosen muscles while improving blood circulation.

Massage chairs also offer the air massage. This is the use of air bags inflating and deflating to squeeze and release the back, seat, and legs. It is great at applying pressure to and relaxing sore muscles.

Every individual would find different massage techniques to be most beneficial and it is up to the consumer to decide what he or she is looking for in a massage chair. And since there are so many brands and models available to choose from, there should be a chair with the functions to match anyone’s needs.

Massage therapy helps your body to rid itself of built up toxins. Your first line of defense is the blood to remove toxins. Your lymphatic system removes toxins that the blood cannont. Both of these systems can be enhanced with acupressure massage therapy. Acupressure is a form a massage therapy from ancient Chinese medicine. It uses firm pressure on specific trigger points in your body to increase blood circulation which helps to remove toxins from your body. The top massage chair companies now offer acupressure massage therapies to further help the body’s natural toxin removal systems.

If you ever felt decreases in energy throughout your body, then you may have trigger points which have become blocked. The energy that normally flows through your body may be decreased leading to a feeling of fatigue. Acupressure massage therapy targets this particular symptom to help restore balance to your system. There are hundreds of pressure points in your body. These trigger points can be manipulated to enhance the energy flow in your body to bring back the levels of energy you are used to having.

Acupressure massage is performed using kneading, tapping and vibration massage techniques. These massage techniques are used throughout the body in conjunction with stimulating the acupressure points. Delivering the acupressure massage is achieved by making rapid circular motions with medium pressure on particular trigger points. The trigger points are then stimulated in conjunction with massaging the body to release blocked energy. The energy flow is restored and the body returns to a normal balance.

Acupressure massage therapy has many positive benefits. It helps to alleviate stress, muscle tension, aches and pains. It helps to harness the body’s own recuperative powers. The acupressure stimulations help diffuse the build up of toxins in the body. As toxins in the body build up, it causes stiffness in the muscles. This muscle stiffness puts pressure on the circulatory and lymph systems. This puts unequal pressure on your body putting it out of balance and harmony.

Massage chairs incorporate advanced technology to accurately locate the trigger points of the body. The software programs make a map of the users trigger points. The acupressure massage is then customized for each individual user. There are almost 100 trigger points in the back alone. Massage chairs have outstanding capabilities to stimulate your acupressure points and apply massage techniques such as kneading, percussion and vibration. These massage therapies are effective in relieving soreness, aches and pains in the back, shoulder and neck.

For the lower body, many manufacturers have developed air compression systems. The air compression systems incorporate specifically designed airbags with special nodes to activate trigger points in the lower body. When the air compression system activates, the airbag inflates and the node pushes gently into the trigger point. These are most commonly found for the back of the calves and for the bottom of the feet. Stimulating these trigger points help to induce total body relaxation and release accumulated tension.

We have a lot to learn from the Chinese. They have been around for more than 2,000 years. They have learned many things that we are just beginning to find out about. Acupressure massage is one such area. The Chinese have used to relieve a variety of ailments including motion sickness, constipation and more. As technology has advanced, these acupressure techniques have been replicated into the best massage chairs. Massage chairs provide a convenient and economical way to receive frequent acupressure massage. This is important to counteract the daily build up of stress. Stress relief needs to occur with greater frequency, since stress build up is continuous. Having your own massage chair is a fantastic method to help your restore balance and harmony.

Acupressure is a massage technique which helps to release blocked energy centers in your body. Science has confirmed the existence of meridian pathways using various electrical techniques. Chinese medical arts understood these meridian pathways to carry energy throughout the body. They noticed that certain junctures or centers could become inhibited or blocked causing the body to be out of balance. By applying pressure to certain pressure points in the body, the energy flow could be manipulated and restored. Science has now mapped out the body’s acupressure points and has cataloged over 350 points in the body.

To manipulate your trigger points, acupressure massage uses a variety of techniques. Firm pressure is applied to targeted pressure points depending on the areas in need of attention. Additionally, chopping style massage is used to loosen up major muscles to reduce stiffness. Kneading is used to elongate muscles and reduce soreness. Vibration massage is used to stimulate the capillary vessels to enhance blood circulation. As the trigger points are activated, energy begins to flow once again at its normal levels. This brings back greater harmony to the body.

The technology that is being incorporated into the best massage chairs is simply amazing. Advanced mechanical systems coupled to sophisticated software has produced wonderfully effective massage therapies. These massage recliners have sensors to scan your back. Their software programs create a digital map of your back and locate your individual trigger points. The software then targets these points and the mechanical systems provide kneading, chopping, vibration and firm pressure. These effective systems provide thorough and invigorating relief for your whole back and body.

The ancient Chinese have understood the great healing powers of the body. They have studied and correlated many therapies to assist and enhance the body’s own natural healing powers. These techniques are systematically being integrated into the best massage chairs. These top brands are finding innovative ways to provide effective relief of many common disorders. Acupressure is known to relieve insomnia, dizziness, headaches and more. We are just beginning to realize the power of these simple but effective techniques. Stress has been around since time began, stress relief is your counter balance. Massage chairs are the most convenient method to receive ongoing stress relief.

Buying a massage chair can be a daunting task because it is quite a major purchase. We already know that before making major purchases we have to do our homework and learn as much as possible. But more than just going to the shop and trying out a few chairs, it’s important to learn what to look for ahead of time to make the most of the trip.

Three key things that differentiate massage chairs are massage functions, upholstery, and physical design. Other variations are less obvious and you have to carefully read the specifications to learn the little but important things about the chair.

Most chairs come with rolling, kneading, tapping and percussions. These are the most important massage functions built into every massage chair of every price range. More expensive chairs offer an extension to these functions as well as the option to combine functions to be performed at the same time or in specific sequences.

Massage functions are just part of the massage techniques that a chair offers. Besides being able to combine different functions, speed and intensity are also part of the techniques in massage chairs. Many chairs come with a range of speeds and intensities. From high end chairs with a wide range down to the budget chairs that offer a smaller range to select from.

The material of upholstery usually is used by manufacturers to distinguish the premium lines from the budget lines. Leather and leathermatch will cost more and tend be packaged with other fancy features of high end chairs while cloth and microfiber will be a staple of budget chairs.

The design of the chair is important to many and for good reason. Since they tend to be bulky, most people keep them in their living room and it serves double purpose as a lounge chair. For that reason, it’s not uncommon for the look of the chair to be a deal breaker or maker. However, there are also chairs that come with rollers so they can be tilted, rolled, and tucked away when not in use.

Of all these above mentioned considerations, comfort is the most important. The purpose of the chair lies in it’s ability to provide comfort and relaxation and in many cases it doubles as a lounge chair.

When it comes down to it, comfort is the key. A massage chair is something that should unwind and relax you. If it is something to look forward to after a long day, then the chair has fulfilled its purpose.

Essential oils are made from herbs, various parts of the plants, sometimes leaves or stems or roots. So it is safe to say that herbs are the basic source of essential oils. Every plant has its own miniscule quantity and quality of essential oils. Large quantities of herbs are needed to produce small amounts of essential oil. Most remarkable is the understanding that the entire quality of the essential oil cannot exceed the quality of the herbs from which it is made. No wonder it is important to seek excellent sources for therapeutic grade essential oil.

The quality of the herbs will suffer if the growing conditions are not ideal and that will affect the quality of the essential oil. If the herbs do not have the quality grown into them from the environmental and geographical conditions it will be impossible to obtain therapeutic grade essential oil from the plants at that location. People will return to the same grower year after year for trusted quality and purity of herbs.

The therapeutic value of essential oils has been known for a long long time. The healing powers of these oils and herbs were used by people long before we had fancy hospitals and trained physicians to provide health services. The herbs were distilled and the best ones produced therapeutic grade essential oils.

Years ago. French scientists identified a need for uniformity and created standards for comparing therapeutic grade essential oils. The International Standards they developed are still in use today.

The analysis of quality goes beyond the normal sensory evaluation for color and clarity. Science supplies technology to grade essential oils. Gas chromatography and mass spectrometry are two lab tests used to assess the quality and purity of essential oils to determine if they are pure enough to be certified therapeutic grade essential oils.

You can use therapeutic grade essential oils in many ways. You never want to use synthetic or lower grade impure essential oils for therapeutic applications with your clients. They are not likely to have the same results and can have negative complications for your clients. This is true if you are using aromatherapy or massage that includes essential oils.

You will be wise to find and stay with a reputable dealer who works with growers who can provide you with fine quality therapeutic grade essential oils. Dont go wasting your time and money on cheap imitations or diluted lower grade oils. Or your results will be disappointing or worse.

Buying therapeutic grade essential oils online requires more diligence and care. Pay attention to pricing. Work with someone who has prompt delivery and a good reputation. If you have the essential oil and a piece of blotting paper handy. Put a drop on it. When it evaporates, the fine quality essential oil leaves no stain. The lesser grade may have been blended with other carrier oils with impurities and will leave a stain.

In this modern world we live, stress is becoming a cause for concern. So, the benefits of having massage therapy to help relieve stress is something one should not be ignoring. Long-term stress can result in tension, headaches, muscle aches and chronic pain that can only get worse as your life gets more and more busy. The advantage of getting a good massage regularly is that it will not only help clear up the conditions mentioned, but it also can keep them from coming back or even getting worse.

To really feel the full benefits of massage therapy one needs to find the right massage therapist who will be able to meet your requirements. It may in fact take you some time before you find one that you not only like but also feel comfortable with and trust. Look for one who has the right set of qualifications and who is both professional and friendly in their attitude towards their clients. Also you need one who will clearly and fully explain the benefits to be had from undergoing massage therapy and few of which you may not actually be aware of.

Although massage therapy can help you to unwind especially if you week has been unusually stressful. There are other benefits to be had from massage therapy in relation to treating other health problems.

One benefit to be gained from massage therapy is for those who suffer from arthritis, migraines or other chronic pain conditions. These people when they undergo regular massage therapy sessions have found that the symptoms of their conditions have been alleviated making it much easier to cope with their lives.

Also, massage therapy can help those people who suffer from forms of depression and anxiety. The relaxing atmosphere of the room in which the massage takes place i.e., the warm bed, the smells which the person finds comforting and the gentle touch if the massage therapist can create an environment that the person feels safe and secure in.

A lot of the time, we find it very difficult to actually make time in our lives just to stop and relax and forget about what the world is placing on us. So now more and more people are turning to massage therapy as a way of allowing them to do this. Yet although it can help us all with stress levels those who suffer from anxiety and depression find that massage therapy when used in conjunction with more traditional medical treatments helps them even more.

For women who are suffering from PMS, massage therapy can be extremely beneficial to them as well, if they undergo it on a regular basis. Although some women feel it can only help them slightly this is not the case. As well as helping to relieve the tension that they feel it can also help to alleviate other symptoms associated with this condition including the pain of cramping and water retention.

The thing is that just about anyone can enjoy the benefits of massage therapy. In fact, there are many who have found massage therapy to be beneficial in coping with modern life as well as in treating health problems as well.

by Kerris Samson

When you are giving someone a massage it is important to remember that it should be as relaxing an experience for them as possible. The whole idea of giving someone a good massage is that you are able to help alleviate some of the stresses and strains placed on their bodies because of the kind of lifestyle that they lead. Below we offer a number of good massage tips which should not only ensure that the massage therapy session is safe, but enjoyable as well.

1. It is important that the location where you will be carrying out the massage is one which the person having the treatment finds easy to relax in. Ideally you should have an area where they can either lie or sit down comfortably in and it should also be warm. Remember there are going to occasions when the person will need to remove items of clothing in order for the treatment to really be effective. Also if you can why not have some music gently playing in the ground as this can often help with getting a person settled and relaxed before the massage session commences. But before putting the music on it may be advisable to ask the person if they want music to listen to or not.

2. After each session that has been done you need to make sure that you clean the area where the massage took place carefully. Therefore, you need to change the sheets and towels that have been used after each session. Again, a person will often relax far easier if they see that you care about what you are doing and they will often actually trust you far more.

3. Although you may think your breath smells okay, do not take any chances. Remember you will be in close proximity to the person you are treating and they will find it somewhat difficult to relax and enjoy the treatment. Even more so if they can actually smell that you have bad breath or it smells of certain foods. Therefore before each session pop in a couple of breath freshners or clean your teeth regularly.

4. Remember you are going to have people visiting you for a massage who are self-conscious about their bodies and may be unwilling to take their clothing off. Therefore, with these people initially it may be wise to use those massage therapy techniques that do not require their clothes to be removed. Only after they become more relaxed and comfortable in your company should you suggest moving on to those types of massage techniques that require clothing to be removed.

5. At the start of each massage therapy session you should only be using light pressure on the person being treated. Then as they become more relaxed and pliable so the amount of pressure you apply to the areas to be treated can be increased. This will in turn be more beneficial to those areas of the body that require the treatment.

6. When carrying out massage therapy sessions you should alter which part of your hand you use for doing the massage with. If not you may find that your hands and yourself tire very quickly and so the effectiveness of the massage therapy will be loss.

What is most important of all when carrying out any kind of massage therapy on a person is that you keep the person’s comfort and happiness in mind? By keeping the above good massage tips in mind you should actually be able to ensure that the session is the person undergoes is the most enjoyable and relaxing one they could ever possibly have.

Massage chair recliners have come a long way over the years from simple vibrating chairs to very sophisticated massage chairs with heat, music and various massage therapies. One of the most basic massage techniques is known as Swedish massage or classic massage. The Swedish massage was developed in the 18th century by Henrik Ling. Swedish massage is very effective in allowing the body to absorb more oxygen.

Stress hits us in various ways in our daily lives. With the various challenges we have, we put stress on various parts of the body. In general, stress impacts us mentally by causing thoughts of fear. This fear translates into physical tension as the flight or fight reactions stir up our muscles for action. This physical tension builds up in the body. It is further sustained by how we mentally deal with stress, which for many is to deny it. These physical and mental stresses have a cumulative effect as it builds up in the body.

The development of Swedish massage centered upon releasing the build up of stress in the body. This technique, like others, needs to be performed on a routine basis for maximum benefit. It was designed to relieve the daily build up of stress in the body. Swedish massage is also called classic massage. Swedish massage is effective in relieving discomfort from pain, body aches and tension.

Effleurage, petrissage, friction, tapottement, traction and vibration are the 6 elements of Swedish massage. Each element of the Swedish massage technique is defined here. The use of long sweeping strokes covering many parts of the body is Effleurage. The use of kneading and squeezing of the muscles is Petrissage. The use of heat to help blood flow and muscle relaxation is Friction. The use of tapping and chopping motions to loosen muscles is Apottement. The use of pulling and stretching the arms and legs is Traction. The use of shaking to loosen muscles and stimulate the capillary vessels is Vibration.

The best massage chair recliners have integrated the 6 elements of Swedish massage into their chairs. These premier massage chair brands use a combination of electro-mechanical systems driven by sophisticated software to deliver the Swedish massage effectively. Whether it is the massage rollers performing Effleurage or Tapottement performed with a rhythmic tapping action, these massage chairs have evolved in sophistication and effectivness. Of course, a massage chair recliner does not tire, so relief is only the push of a button away.

Check out Panasonic and Omega Massage because their massage chairs have advanced the Swedish massage technique the most. The Omega Montage Elite and the Omega Montage Premier massage chair both offer all 6 elements of Swedish massage. Omega has integrated full body heat into both of these chairs. Panasonic with the Real Pro Elite does not offer heat, so it is lacking one element of Swedish massage. Not all chairs offer the Swedish massage elements. A great place to start is with the Real Pro Elite by Panasonic or the Omega Montage Premier massage chair.

Mr. Henrik Ling pioneered the Swedish massage back in the 18th century. He might be amazed to see how his techniques have spread and been replicated by technology into chairs. His pioneering efforts have circled the globe and Swedish massage is the most commonly found massage in spas. The key with Swedish massage is to release the build up of stress, which means getting a Swedish massage periodically. Otherwise, the build up goes uncheck or is relieved only sporadically. A massage chair recliner can perform a Swedish massage on a daily or routine basis in the convenience of home.
